season 1
Nucky celebrates his birthday and uses the event to try and expand his influence over both the Mayor of Jersey City and a United States Senator. Margaret is tasked with delivering a dress to Lucy, and finds solace from her disillusionment by shoplifting lingerie. Chalky exacts revenge on a local Ku Klux Klan leader for a lynching. Jimmy and Capone expand their business operations by taking over territories from a local Irish gangster, resulting in vicious consequences for a prostitute Jimmy was fond of. Luciano takes an interest in Gillian while tracking down Jimmy at Rothstein's request.
season 2
January 1921. Nucky's power is put to the test by the alliance of Jimmy, Eli and the Commodore, who manipulate the KKK into attacking Chalky's bootlegging warehouse. Van Alden welcomes his wife to Atlantic City and puts on a show for her, while at the same time providing for Lucy, heavily pregnant with his child. Nucky is arrested for election fraud.

Arrangements are made for Nucky to attend a private club, where he makes a proposal to the Secretary of the Treasury. Torrio, fresh from an Italian vacation, gives Al a larger role in business operations. Nelson, now indebted to O'Banion, is employed as his "muscle". Nucky and Billie argue, while Nelson has trouble at his day job. Margaret goes against the church by seeking birth control for someone in need. Gillian cuts ties with Luciano, giving Gyp a tip in the process.?
